BarrhavenYoga - Breathe, Stretch, Relax, Tone, Strengthen

In the Media

                               Editing

In what now seems like another lifetime (just 3 years ago), I was the managing editor for a medical association here in Ottawa. I had graduated with a Master’s degree in English Literature and got a job in my field. I had everything I could have wanted; yet life felt somehow empty. I had never practiced Yoga  before and thought stretching was a waste of time. When my mom introduced me to a DVD by Baron Baptiste, I knew at that moment that I had tapped into something Huge….

What I didn’t know was that it would become my life's purpose.

A few months later, I completed my yoga certification and quit the corporate job to teach. I’ve never looked back. The Universe is an amazing thing . . . the way it aligns to help you along when you’re on the right path.  That’s the only way that I can explain coming together with Dr. Ray Long. This past year I have worked closely with Ray, re-working two groundbreaking texts, The Key Muscles of Yoga and The Key Poses of Yoga. These were re-released in February2010 and are available for purchase here:http://www.bandhayoga.com/idevaffiliate/idevaffiliate.php?id=584.For anyone with an interest in Yoga or how the body works, these books are a phenomenal resource.

Blogging — An Exploration of Spirituality

On March 31, 2010, I launched my first on-line journal, otherwise known as a Blog. I had contemplated the merit of such a thing for some time—“Is it the Yogic thing to do??”— but what could be more yogic than immersing yourself in something that brings great joy?! Follow your bliss, I say! Life experience has shown me that there is no greater reward than taking risks in the name of doing what you love.
Yoga365 is my documented commitment to the practice in of all its dimensions.

Writing — TheBarrhaven Independent

I heard once that, in order to call yourself a writer, you need to be published. Thanks to the Barrhaven Independent, this is something that I can do! Writing a monthly column for the local newspaper has realigned me with a creative side that I’d since forgotten, aside from the meanderings of a personal journal. The column provides a public forum for addressing questions that many of us have but don't ask. It’s also a way for me to suggest simple and practical ways to bring your Yoga practice off the mat and into your life.  Thank you to all my readers (past and future).
